Essential Pre-Trip Planning

Required Documents 📄

✅ Passport (valid for at least 6 months)

✅ Chinese Visa (Unless you are on the list of the visa-free countries)

Tibet Travel Permit (arranged through us)

✅ Photocopies of all documents (store separately)

✅ Digital copies saved in email/cloud storage

Luggage & Transportation

✅Suitcase or Duffel Bag

✅ Comfortable daily Backpack: Versatile for various activities

What kind of luggage should I bring?

It doesn't really matter if you take a suitcase or a duffel bag in the train or plane. During the bigger tours where we are exploring places farther from Lhasa, such as Kailash or the EBC, they can stay in your hotel or follow us in the cars.

Additionally, you should bring a carry-on backpack for day explorations to store your important belongings. (Document, water, additional clothes, medications needed for the day...)

Clothing Guide by type of tour :

City Tours & Sightseeing around Lhasa, Namtso and Yamdrock and central tibet

✅ Comfortable walking shoes (tennis, sneakers)

✅ Hiking pants - Flexible, breathable, appropriate for monasteries (yoga pants are not recommended)

✅ Layered tops: T-shirts + sweater/fleece + light jacket

✅ Sun protection: Wide-brim hat, sunglasses with a good UV protection

✅ Evening warmth: Scarf, light gloves (seasonal)

Remote Regions (Everest Base Camp & Mount Kailash...)

✅ Warm layers: Potential for snow even in summer

✅ Wind and rain protection outer shell: Strong winds are common

✅ Waterproof hiking boots (Gore-Tex recommended)

✅ Camp shoes: Comfortable footwear for rest

✅ Warm socks (if your feet are cold, it's difficult to stay warm)

✅ Accessories: Warm hat, gloves


If you plan on going around Mount Kailash and Lake Manasovar we also recommend that you bring those, the guesthouse's amenities are less complete there.

Electronics & Power 🔌

✅ Universal adapter: Essential for travelers

In tibet you can find in different places differents types of sockets so make sure your adapter can handle all of thoses :

Voltage: 220V
Frequency: 50Hz

✅ Power banks: Charging facilities are limited in remote areas (Since 2025 in China, your power bank must have 3C certification for flights.

✅ Extra batteries: For your camera and devices.

✅ Memory cards: Bring spares for cameras

Health & Safety

✅Medications: Allergy, diarrhea, pain relief, cold/flu

✅ Altitude support: Motion sickness, anti-nausea medication

Diamox (Acetazolamide):

Most effective medication for altitude.
Requires prescription in most countries
- Start 1-2 days before reaching altitude.
Consult your doctor for the proper dosage

✅ Prescription drugs: Sufficient supply for entire trip

✅ Hydration: Electrolyte supplements

✅ UV protection: Crucial at high altitudes : bring sunscreen with at least SPF 30+ to protect your skin.

Money & Expenses 💰

✅ Cash (only RMB accepted)

✅ You may also set up Alipay and WeChat apps prior to coming to China, to be able to pay with your phone in the cities.

Currency Information

  • Only accepted: Chinese Yuan (CNY/RMB)
  • ATMs: Virtually non-existent outside major cities
  • Planning: Bring sufficient cash for entire trip
  • Cards: Limited acceptance outside cities

Communication 📱

✅ We recommend getting an eSIM if your phone is compatible or a Chinese SIM card upon arrival.
