Embark on a 5-day journey to explore the magnificent sights of Lhasa and enjoy a day trip to the stunning Yamdrok Lake and Karola Glacier.
Upon your arrival at Lhasa Gonggar Airport, our guide and driver will greet you at the exit gate with a name board. "Tashi Delek," a Tibetan greeting, will likely be the first words you hear, accompanied by the offering of a white scarf called Khata, symbolizing our hospitality.
The drive from the airport to the old city of Lhasa covers approximately 70 kilometers and takes about 45 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic. Along the way, you'll catch a glimpse of the Yarlung River (Brahmaputra River) and a first view of the majestic Potala Palace.
After checking into your hotel, take the first day to rest and acclimatize to the environment.
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel from 7:30 AM to 10:30 AM.
Your guide will pick you up for a visit to the Jokhang Temple, just a 5-minute walk from your hotel. The Jokhang Temple, located at the heart of old Lhasa, has been a significant religious and commercial center in Tibet for centuries.
Next, explore Barkhor Street, a 15-20 minute walk around the Jokhang Temple. This famous street is filled with shops and has become a bustling shopping center. You'll see local pilgrims walking clockwise with prayer wheels in hand and witness the colorful culture of people from different parts of Tibet.
After lunch, visit the Sera Monastery, built in the 15th century by Jamchen Choji Sakya Yeshi, a disciple of Tsongkapa, the founder of the Gelukpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Attend the fascinating debate session of the Sera monks, which begins around 3 PM in the Sera courtyard. This experience offers a glimpse into the monastic traditions of Tibetan Buddhism.
Start your morning with a visit to the Potala Palace. The climb to the palace is refreshing, with cool breezes and stunning views. The Potala Palace consists of the White Palace, used for official matters, and the Red Palace, used for religious purposes.
The palace was initially built by the 33rd King of Tibet, Songtsan Gampo, in the 7th century and later rebuilt by the 5th Dalai Lama in the 17th century.
Take breaks during your visit to enjoy the beautiful bird's-eye view of Lhasa and explore the palace's rooms and chambers.
In the evening, join us for a home-cooked dinner with our team. Our special cook will prepare local Tibetan dishes that are not too greasy or spicy. Enjoy a delightful evening of conversation about our team's work and your experiences in Tibet.
Begin your day with a scenic drive from Lhasa to Yamdrok Lake, about 110 kilometers away via the Gambala Pass (4790m). The journey takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours.
Yamdrok Lake is a holy lake with turquoise waters, surrounded by beautiful mountains. The lake stretches 72 kilometers, running parallel to the main road leading to the Karola Glacier, about an hour's drive further down.
The Karola Glacier is one of Tibet's three major glaciers, located at the boundary of Nangarze County.
Depending on your flight or train schedule, your guide and driver will ensure a timely transfer from your hotel to the airport or train station. We sincerely hope that your time in Tibet has been memorable and that our services have met your expectations.
